Parent rights, reading, and materials
I believe families deserve transparency, lawful age-appropriate materials, and meaningful choices for their own children.
The issue
Schools must balance parental access and choice with consistent policy, Texas law, and the educational rights of all families.
Why it matters in Katy ISD
Clear review processes and accessible information reduce confusion and help concerns receive a fair hearing.
What the Board controls
The Board adopts materials and complaint policies and monitors whether they are applied consistently; trustees should not decide individual matters outside that process.
My approach
I would ensure parents can see what their child is reading, preserve lawful opt-out choices, and use transparent, consistent review procedures.
What I would ask and measure
- Clarity and timeliness of review processes
- Parent access to instructional information
- Consistent policy application
- Communication before controversies escalate
