Student data privacy
I support collecting only what serves a legitimate educational purpose and making clear where student information goes.
The issue
Digital tools, surveys, and vendors can collect sensitive student information.
Why it matters in Katy ISD
Families need confidence that data collection is limited, secure, transparent, and tied to education.
What the Board controls
The Board can adopt policy, review contracts and safeguards, and require reporting on vendors and incidents.
My approach
I would limit unnecessary collection, insist on strong contracts and retention rules, and explain practices in plain language.
What I would ask and measure
- Vendor access and contract safeguards
- Data retention and deletion
- Survey purpose and necessity
- Incident response and family notice
